Citrus Aurantium Bergamia Top note
Bergamot is a relative of the orange tree, originating in the tropics of Asia, introduced to Europe via Italy. The essential oil is expressed from the peel of the fruit, and is sweetly citrus with just a hint of the distinctive note bergamot gives to earl grey tea.
Uses
The uplifting and refreshing effects of bergamot are apparent as soon as the bottle is opened. Beyond this, as the oil permeates the air via a diffuser, or is released during massage, it reveals another quality, allowing deep relaxation and a release of anxiety. For this reason, bergamot is one of the foremost oils used to combat insomnia and depression.
Bergamot oil can be highly effective in treating oily skin conditions, acne and other infections. It is also recommended as a treatment for psoriasis, applied diluted in a carrier oil, infused into a water, or used in the bath.
Caution; bergamot oil is phototoxic and must not be used on the skin prior to sun exposure or use of a sunbed.
