The essential oil comes from the daisy-like flowers of this native European plant, familiar to many as a tea, and in gardens as a chamomile lawn.  The oil is a deep, vibrant blue quite unlike the yellow and white flowers, due to the high concentration of chamazulene produced as the oil is distilled. The essential oil has grassy, sweet, and apple notes, combining to form a pleasant, warm, quite heady scent.

 

Above all, chamomile has a great reputation as an anti-inflammatory,making it useful for all sorts of allergies as well as reactive disorders such as eczema.  It has long been used for menstrual disorders and to alleviate the symptoms of the menopause.  On an emotional level, German Chamomile soothes, calms and balances.  It is recommended to relieve anxiety and stress, as well as for depression.   This oil is a popular choice for families as it is considered very safe.
