Cupressus sempervirens Base note
The woody, penetrating odour of cypress essential oil suggests the healthy air of an evergreen forest. The oil is distilled from the green needles of this mediterranean tree.
As with many evergreens, cypress oil clears the lungs, and is especially helpful for those with coughs, colds, bronchitis and asthma. For this use, try using a diffuser to scent the room, a few drops on a handkerchief, or apply as a chest rub, diluted in a little carrier oil such as sunflower. Regular massage with a cypress oil blend can also reduce cellulite and boost circulation (always massage in the direction of the heart).
On an emotional level, cypress is calming and balancing for those under stress, just as the tree is reputed to be.
