Star Anise is an energising and uplifting oil with a sweet liquorice scent. The essential oil is usually extracted from the fruit of the plant. 

 

Just as the seeds are traditionally chewed to freshen the breath and aid digestion after meals, the oil is thought to be useful for indigestion.  It has expectorant properties and is recommended for coughs and bronchitis.  Star anise is often included in massage blends for tired, aching muscles. 

Always dilute this oil in a carrier oil before applying to the skin.  Do not use during pregnancy.
